The project has been started in june 1987 with a view to screen all the school children for all types of ailments. The surveillance commences in the last week of June every year and goes on till the end of August. Students needing medical treatment are referred to the base hospital for free follow-up treatment including free hospitalisation if necessary.

Beneficiaries:

School children in villages around Tambaram. In the year 2009, 116,200 students of 240 schools have covered under this program. Every year around 260 schools are covrered and about 1,15,000 students are screened.
